Fun, fun FUN! Today’s language learning apps make learning a new language FUN and easy! ... REALLY?
In recent decades, many innovations in language learning have been attempted to make the process easier and fun. And there’s so much brand messaging out there about how “easy” and “fun” it is, that it’s easy to believe that the experience of language learning these days is nothing but fun, fun, fun. But nothing could be further from the truth. (Most people still HATE to learn languages.) Part of the reason is that forcing your mind to acquire thousands of new, foreign words is still the accepted, painful practice for EVERY app. But what if you didn’t actually acquire “new” words? Instead, what if you used a process to leverage the existing language memory that your mind already contains?
